Don’t Touch That
October tempts gardeners to clean everything up. The fading blooms, fallen leaves, and spent stems can make the landscape feel cluttered, even chaotic. There’s a natural impulse to sweep, snip, and prune — to “tidy” the garden in preparation for winter. But restraint is often the wiser approach. In many cases, what looks like untidiness is actually structure, protection, and life waiting quietly under the frost.
